5 Oh-So-Filling Pasta Facts

  1. Dentally delicious

In traditional Italian cuisine, pasta is usually slightly undercooked and firm, or al dente, which literally means “to the tooth.”

  2. Safe for pets

Pasta is actually OK for your dog or cat to eat in small amounts, as long as your pet isn’t allergic to wheat.

  3. Digital solution

Italy classifies its flour into three different types: 1, 0, or 00, with type 00 being the most fine, and thus best for pasta.

  4. Durable durham

Most pasta is made from durham flour, and can be kept uncooked for more than a year.

  5. Have it your way

According to the International Pasta Organization, more than 600 different shapes of pasta are produced globally.

Why Do We Celebrate National Candy Month?

National Candy Month

To me, drum soloing is like doing a marathon and solving equations at the same time.

Neil Peart

National Candy Month Activities

  1. Have a candy battle

Ever wondered which candy reigns supreme once and for all? Have a candy battle with friends! Here’s how you do it: host a candy party where you supply all your favorite brands of candy. Have your friends show up and gorge—and the candy that gets eaten the most is the winner!

  2. Make some candy sushi

If you’ve been anywhere around Pinterest in the last year, you’ll know delicious-looking candy sushi has been making the rounds. Long pieces of candy (like Twizzlers) substitute for the fish and vegetable strips in real sushi, while rice is replaced by Rice Krispies. It’s the most delicious roll-up you’ve ever had!

  3. DIY your favorite candy

Take your favorite candy to a whole new level by making it yourself at home! Some great candidates to start are peanut butter cups, Kit Kats, and chocolate clusters. Flex your baking muscles, impress your friends, and have a delicious treat to boot!

Why We Love National Candy Month

  1. It’s the most delicious month of the year

Who can argue with a whole month dedicated to eating candy? We sure can’t. Whether you prefer chocolate or sour candy, the world is your (candy) oyster this month. Go wild—you can worry about cavities next month.

  2. It celebrates candy’s economic impact

Did you know that the candy industry is worth $35 billion, and provides 55,000 jobs? Candy is a vital part of our economy! And, according to the National Confectioner’s Association, many of the major candy companies in America are actually family-owned.

  3. It reminds us to stay balanced

While we all love candy, this holiday sends an important message—everything in moderation. The NCA has worked hard to make sure candy has accessible labeling, so that consumers know the amount of sugar they’re consuming. Let this holiday be a reminder to indulge responsibly—eat candy, but know how much sugar you’re consuming.

Gummy bears, sour straws, chocolate—oh my! This June is National Candy Month, meaning you can eat all of these and more. Started by the National Confectioner’s Association (according to them, they’re “a trade association that advances, protects and promotes chocolate, candy, gum and mints”), the holiday celebrates the value candy adds to our lives. Candy has been produced for over 100 years, which means you have a lot of catching up to do if you want to eat it all. So work your way through copious amounts of candy with us this June!

National Hamburger Month History

National Hamburger Month

It is my last wish to be burried sitting up.

Bette Davis

History of National Hamburger Month

As far as credit for the transformation of the European meat sandwiches into the sesame-seed bun, wide patty, condiment and leaf-laden burger we know today? You might as well draw a name out of a hat. For the sake of simplicity, we’ll tell you that among the first to serve American hamburgers were the owners of the first White Castle restaurants, who in turn spread the story of the burger’s invention by a chef named Otto Kuase (whose sandwich included a fried egg on top of the patty; the egg was later omitted).

The other main component to remember about the hamburger’s origin is its presence at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. At that event, burgers were served and became popular enough to become a de facto exhibit of their own. Writing up the Fair, the “New York Tribune” called the new hamburger “the innovation of a food vendor on the pike,” the word ‘pike’ meaning the fair’s midway, a mile-long span that showcased numerous amusements and activities. History has (fairly certainly) revealed the vendor in question to be the late Fletcher Davis. Counterclaims have been made in print and oral histories, but we accept them as more variables in the swirling mists of time that have irrevocably obscured the hamburger’s precise birth circumstances.

But hey, we don’t have to be historians to eat our favorite food, right?

During National Hamburger Month, May of every year, it’s only natural to wonder about the origins of America’s favorite sandwich. Who is the true inventor? From what country or state did the very first hamburgers emigrate to our U.S. restaurant tables and backyard grills? We can faithfully report that there are almost as many claims of inventorship as there are hamburger styles, which of course comprise every variation from Kobe beef to vegetarian meat substitutes to salmon to the popular 80/20 ground beef.

The name “hamburger” derives, of course, from the city of Hamburg, Germany. Some residents of Hamburg were headed as far west as the eastern shores of the United States during the 18th century. Many of them brought a snack called the “Hamburgh sausage.” This snack, like its cousin the “Rundstück warm,” combined a meatball similar to the Swedish meatball with a slice of bread for utensil-free handling. We’ll give you a bonus bit of trivia for your first barbecue this spring: the words “wiener” and “frankfurter” also derive from the names of German cities, Vienna and Frankfurt, respectively. (Remember that German W’s sound like V’s.)

4 Delicious Facts About Deviled Eggs

  1. Devil’s Eggs debuted in Rome

The deviled egg concept began with Ancient Rome.

  2. “Deviling” is an actual word

According to the food historians, the practice of “deviling” food began sometime during the 18th century in England.

Why Do We Celebrate National Hot Breakfast Month?

Uncategorized | Posted by admin
Feb 15 2021

National Hot Breakfast Month

I had been taught that if I cried, to be quiet about it, so whereas I never howled, the least thing made me cry both at school and at home. Crying tends to separate a child from other children, for even children dislike a cry baby, and I had no friends in the world.

Frederick Banting

National Hot Breakfast Month Activities

  1. Cook breakfast with the family

Raising kids and keeping the family moving and on schedule is a full-time task. It’s always good to slow down at least once in a while. A good way to squeeze in some family time and a hot breakfast is to cook it together as a family. Find out everybody’s favorite hot breakfast food and get cookin’!

  2. Try something new

Those steel cut oats I mentioned before are not only good for you, but they’re a delicious way to get your day started. Try them if you haven’t already. Or find another hot breakfast food that’s a little out of the ordinary, such as apple bacon pancakes. Mmmmm.

  3. Have breakfast for dinner (and a movie)

Queue up a breakfast-themed movie, like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” or “The Breakfast Club” and serve a hot breakfast for dinner while you watch.

Why We Love National Hot Breakfast Month

  1. It’s cold out

The heavy winter chill still clings to the month of February and won’t let go. What better way to ward off the winter chills than with a hot breakfast? It’s a way to remind ourselves that spring is just around the corner.

  2. Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day

There’s been a lot of speculation lately about the wisdom of proclaiming breakfast as the most important of all meals. But while scientists can debate that one, we’ll make sure to start the day off with a hot breakfast. After all, we haven’t eaten in like, eight hours. Time to break the fast!

  3. There is so much variety

From cereals to oatmeal to farm-fresh eggs and sausage, there’s a whole lot of variety when it comes to finding a satisfying and hot morning meal. Part of the fun is just figuring out what you’d like to eat the next day for breakfast.

I’ve recently started eating steel cut oats for my morning breakfast, and let me tell you, it’s a powerhouse way to start the day. In fact, a hot and hardy (hearty?) breakfast is a good way to jumpstart anybody’s body, regardless of what time of day it is or how hectic the lifestyle.

To that end, we’re happy to fill you in on a little thing called National Hot Breakfast Month, which lasts the whole of February, and is probably the coolest celebration you’ve never heard about.
